Professional Experience
Thirty five years with Kirkland & Ellis; lead trial/appellate counsel in many of the firm's most significant cases. Served nearly two decades on firm management committee. Six years as Executive Vice President, Chief Legal Officer and Secretary of Morgan Stanley; also served on the firm's Management Committee. Oversaw legal, compliance, government relations, community affairs and internal audit functions (over 1000 employees). Currently, a CPR- and AAA-certified arbitration and mediation neutral, Adjunct Professor of Law and private practitioner. Served from 2004 through 2007 as a Commissioner on the Antitrust Modernization Commission. Before entering law school, spent three years as an officer in the United States Marine Corps.

Primary Practice Areas
Handled a wide variety of cases, including commercial, intellectual property, securities, antitrust, employment, bankruptcy and other disputes. Also had an active counseling practice, particularly in advising on corporate governance issues and merger, acquisition and other transactional matters.

Dispute Resolution Experience and Training
Participates actively in ADR educational programs. Has attended AAA Arbitration of Intellectual Property and Licensing Disputes program, ICDR Forum on International Arbitration, CPR Annual Meeting and Mediation Training program, CDS Mediation for the Professional program, ICC/ICSID/AAA Joint Colloquium on International Arbitration and Harvard Program on Negotiation.

Fellow, American College of Trial Lawyers. Has been listed in Best Lawyers in America, World's Leading Litigation Lawyers, World's Leading Competition Lawyers and Who's Who in America. Served as Trustee of Chicago Symphony Orchestra, New York City Opera, Metropolitan Family Services of Chicago (Past Chairman) and American Inns of Court (Vice President). Member of Chicago (Past President) and New York (Past President) Inns of Court and Seventh Circuit Bar Association (Past President). Served on Visiting Committee of the Harvard Law School. Director, Safety National Casualty Corporation (1988-96). Sustaining Fellow of the Art Institute of Chicago; member of the Economic Club of Chicago.
