Retired Morgan Stanley GC joins Blaqwell

Donald G. Kempf, Jr., retired Executive Vice President, Chief Legal Officer, Secretary and Management Committee member of Morgan Stanley has become a Senior Advisor to Blaqwell. Don joined Morgan Stanley in 1999 and retired in 2005. While at Morgan Stanley, Don oversaw the legal, compliance, government relations, community affairs and internal audit functions (over 1000 employees).

Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, Don spent 35 years with Kirkland & Ellis, where he served on its Management Committee for 18 years, handled many of the firm’s most significant cases and had an active counseling practice, particularly in advising on corporate governance issues and merger, acquisition and other transactional matters.

During 2007, Don completed three years of service as a Commissioner on the Antitrust Modernization Commission. He is also a Senior Advisor to Gleacher Partners, a leading independent investment bank, an AAA- and CPR-certified arbitration and mediation neutral and an adjunct professor of law.

At Blaqwell, Don will be working primarily with corporate law departments—and some with law firms as well—on matters such as the quality and cost of legal services (and how to improve on both fronts), challenges faced by new General Counsel and the like.
